Style Trends for the Home from High Point Furniture Market

Referring to High Point market in conversation, the question is almost always asked, “what is that, is it a show”? it’s always fun explaining what market is, asuming everyone knows what High Point is. High Point North Caroline is know to be the “Furniture Capital of the World”. When twice a year, the largest furniture trade show happens, in the spring and fall. A to-the-trade, show of new introductions of furniture and home décor. Just like fashion week, except for furniture and home décor.

I found that this fall 2021 market was better than any other I’ve attended. The vibe was exciting and to see the hustle and bustle of High Point come alive again after the pandemic break. Meeting up with interior design community friends from all over the country was another perk this fall market.

There were so many trends that I fell in love with, and I'd like to share a few of the high level trends noticed.

Style Trends

There was an overall style trend noticed from showroom to showroom. I’d say a bit of an LA vibe happening. More convertible furniture groupings, curved sofas, and curvy sectionals that could create any seating shape desired for a room. Although that’s not to say traditional styles weren’t present at market.

Rattan and Wicker

Oversized dome lighting made a dramatic statement in materials of, again, rattan, wicker, shells, beads and stones. Palecek, large dome light fixture provided a wow factor in their showroom upon entering. Ceiling light fixtures had elongated wood beads that dropped from metal arms of the fixture and Currey and Company had so many beautiful wood bead chandeliers, it was hard to capture them all.

Color Trends Alert

Shades of orange, chartreuse, burnt orange and caramel were everywhere even on bedding. Also, a popular color combination was bright yellow and blue. The blue and white combination still seems to hold true in home decor accessories and furnishings. These colors were noticed on wall sconces, throw pillows and accent chairs. Less gray was seen on upholstery and more vibrant colors, especially orange. Even walking through the Antique and Design Center, spotted was a French antique chest of drawers showcasin it’s orange panted design.

Trending Textiles

Boucle was in high visibility in almost every showroom, in shades of white and off white. Linen, and textured textured textiles and grasscloth and rattan inserted into case goods such as armoire cabinet, chest of drawers, dining buffets and storage pieces embellished each piece with customized detail.

Lets’ Talk Metals

Metal inlay was noticed on dining table bases, lamps and mirrors. Beautiful chest pulls that appea to be jewelry mixed with glass and stone also made a noticeable impact at market. More metal framed ceiling lights embellished with beads, crystals and sea glass were hard not to notice. These can be used to make a statement in any space by going large, if ceiling height allows.

The Wonder of Wood

Wood furniture frames were enhanced by woven roping on outdoor furniture which seemed again to be a trend noticed. Almost every furniture showroom had at least one piece of furniture from sofa to accent chair showcasing this style. Lots of rattan and wicker mixed with upholstery was very present at market. Not only shown for indoor use on displays, but also for outdoor dining areas and seating groupings.

Play with Pattern

One pattern I noticed more so on fabrics and accessories was marbling. Marbling could be seen on pillows and wallpapers. Geometrics were also a popular pattern on throw pillows adding a pop of color on solid furniture.

Amazing Agate

One of my favorite trends noticed at market was the use of agate. Agate could be seen throughout market being mixed with different pieces of furniture and elements creating an interesting piece of art in furniture. Lighting, dining tables, end tables and mirrored frames were just a few of the pieces that highlighted the use of agate into these pieces.

One thing for sure is that there was something for everyone and every style home featured at fall High Point Market. Watch fore these furniture and home decor trends coming your way.
